Report filed 22/09/05
The last month has seen an upturn in catches due to water temperatures, at last, dropping back. This has encouraged the fish to move and surface patterns, particularly hoppers and daddies, have scored well on cloudier days. During the heat of the day and in bright sunshine the fish have headed for the depths where damsels, dancers, buzzers and viva's have done the trick.
Holl Reservoir - Troutmaster winners were Frank Curran, Kennoway, with a superb overwintered 12lb rainbow taken on a Shipman's buzzer; Andrew Scobie was second with another beauty of 8lb 8oz on a cormorant; while Mark Lee had a nice one of 8lb 2oz on a viva. Other good catches have been as follows; 4 for 17lb 7oz, Mr Moffat, Largo, on Diawl Bach; 4 for 15lb for Mr McGuire, Edinburgh, on traditional wets; Mr Wilkinson had 4 for 16lb (best 8lb 8oz) on CDC's; Mr Wardlaw, Anstruther, had 4 for 12lb on Yellow Dancers; visitor Mr McGrath, Bristol, took three good fish for 17lb 14oz on buzzers; Mr Callan, Glasgow, had 13lb 3oz; Mr Gibson from Kinross had a good one at 6lb; Mr McDonald and boat partner, both Dalgety Bay, had 8 for 29lb 6oz on Snatchers; Mr Morris, St Modans, 4 for 13lb 8oz; The Michie Brothers had 6 for 25lb 6oz on Orange Blob and Dancers; Mr Lewis, Dalgety Bay, had a good catch of 4 for 13lb 8oz on Cats Whisker; Messrs Ritchie and Lowe had 8 for 30lb 12oz on Dancers.
Drumain Reservoir - Harrower, Jack Brockie (Ballingry) 9 for 23lb 7oz; Healey and co. 10 for 27lb 6oz; Sinclair and co. 10 for 25lb 6oz; best fish so far this season is 8lb 8oz.
Top flies on Drumain have been daddie and orange blob, with best bait being worm.
With water temperatures falling the catches have been very good and this is expected to continue through the rest of September and into October. Fry patterns are well worth a go while daddies and hoppers will still be deadly, particularly in a breeze. Tight lines.
